Invisalign - Before and After Photos (Australia 2019)

Treatments & Care

Young girl at a orthodontic consultation discussing invisalign

Invisalign treatment can achieve impressive before and after results. We have treated many patients - with excellent results - using Invisalign. Before and after photos and details of 5 different cases are included so you can see for yourself the results that can be achieved with invisalign.

In these cases our Orthodontists used Invisalign to treat various problems including:

  • Overbite

  • Crowding

  • Narrow smile

  • Spacing

  • Teeth alignment

Case #1 - Alignment and Arch Shape Before & After

Alignment and arch shape of upper teeth from clear aligners

This case was relatively straight forward. The patient decided not to have their lower teeth treated, but the change is still dramatic. Treatment improved the alignment and shape of the arch. It also successfully broadened the patient’s smile. The treatment time for this type of case can be as little as six months.

Case #2 - Alignment and Arch Expansion - Butterfly Incisor Before & After

Butterfly incisors fixed with invisalign

This was also a relatively simple case for clear aligners. Treatment improved the alignment of butterfly incisors and the shape of the arch. This type of case requires adequate retention to ensure the rotated teeth do not relapse.

Case #3 - Alignment and Arch Expansion Before & After

Before

This was also a relatively simple case for clear aligners. Treatment resulted in improvement in alignment and mild expansion of arches to broaden the smile. This patient had gum recession before treatment and could benefit from seeing a gum specialist.

Case #4 - Realignment and Expansion of Teeth Before and After

Before

This case illustrates a simple but impressive result using Invisalign. The final result was realignment and expansion of teeth to improve the aesthetics of their smile. There were no significant attempts made to improve the bite relationship as it was not seen as a major problem.

Case #5 - Crowding and Overbite Before and After Photos

Before

Both upper and lower teeth have crowding. Invisalign successfully achieved expansion of the narrow arches and better teeth alignment for an improved smile. Treatment was completed in approximately 12 months. Invisalign treatment of an overbite (especially when severe) is less predictable than with braces.

After

Case #6 - Severe Overcrowding, Arch Expansion and Teeth Alignment Before & After

Before

This case is an ideal for Invisalign treatment because the bite was already good. Due to severe overcrowding, a lower incisor tooth was extracted to provide the extra space the bottom teeth needed. The upper lateral incisors are small so the mouth still balanced out by removing the lower incisor. Expansion of the arch and teeth alignment was achieved with this Invisalign treatment. This treatment took around 24 months to complete.

Teeth that are rotated before treatment are particularly prone to moving back to their old position after treatment has finished. The patient wears a fixed retainer behind the upper arch to ensure there is no movement of the teeth as they age.

How Long Does the Treatment Process Take With Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment time can vary from as little as six months to two years. While every treatment is slightly different, the long-term success of patients is often determined by what happens after treatment.

It is critical for patients to understand that it takes years for bone and gum to stabilise after orthodontic treatment. While their teeth may look great after their Invisalign treatment has ended, most patients will need a long-term strategy to keep them looking that way.

Teeth have a natural tendency to return to their original position or crowd with time. Fixed wire retainers behind the bottom, top or both teeth holds them in the correct alignment. Retainers worn every night will also keep teeth in position, so the patient enjoys a successful long-term outcome.

Invisalign vs Braces Effectiveness

While the results of Invisalign can be impressive, it’s not always the best treatment option for some orthodontic problems. It’s important that an experienced Orthodontist assesses your individual situation and advises you on the best type of treatment for you.

Invisalign retainers are removable for eating and cleaning teeth. This means patients need to be careful to put the retainers back in as quickly as possible. Treatment is often unsuccessful if patients don’t wear the retainers for the recommended minimum of 22 hours per day.

If you don’t think you will be disciplined enough to wear aligners for the required time every day, then you should look at a fixed solution like braces.

Invisalign are appealing to many prospective patients because they are virtually invisible, particularly from a distance. What many patients don’t realise is Invisalign may not give you the same final result as braces. While Invisalign can undoubtedly improve the aesthetics of your smile, they may not be able to fix every problem such as a bad bite.

Invisalign doesn’t have the same pulling power as braces to move teeth into the desired position. Some Invisalign patients are advised to wear elastics, but they are visible, so many patients aren’t keen to wear them.

For patients who are looking for the perfect smile, braces may be their only option. For others, Invisalign can achieve a significant improvement in the look of their smile, and they are thrilled with the results.
